Scholarships & Financial Aid

Sources of Scholarships & Financial Aid

Typically, financial aid packages are made up of aid from a variety of sources, and it's important to understand the differences. Merit-based aid is generally in the form of scholarships while need-based aid may be grants, loans and student work study. Agnes Scott offers both merit-based and need-based aid:
  • Scholarships are primarily merit-based and do not have to be repaid.
  • Grants are based on need and are awarded from institutions, states or the federal government and do not have to be repaid.
  • Loans typically originate with the federal government or private sources, are often low-interest and most require no repayment while the student is in school.
  • Other types of aid include work-study programs, tuition exchange programs, Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) and payment options.
