Commencement Logistics

Parking lots open at 7:30 a.m. 
Commencement Quad opens at 8 a.m.
Commencement start time: 9:30 a.m.

Graduates are to report to the Dana Fine Arts Building for line up promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Guest Seating

Tickets are NOT REQUIRED for seating on the Presser Quadrangle.

Indoor seating: Guests who want to get away from the heat can take seats in Buttrick G-4.

Emergency Medical Services: Presser parking lot

Parking at a glance

  • 7:30 a.m.     The Candler lot, tennis court lot, central lot and parking deck will open to the public. Reserved parking in the Presser and Rebekah lots will also open at this time. These lots will remain reserved until 10 minutes prior to the beginning of commencement. At that time these lot will be open to the general public.
  • 8:00 a.m.     Quad opens for commencement
  • Presser lot - handicap and EMS
  • Rebekah lot –handicap, VIP (closed to all traffic during commencement exercises)
  • Candler lot – no restrictions
  • Tennis Court lot – no restrictions
  • Main Loop – closed, pedestrian traffic only
  • Central lot – no restrictions

Please note that no vehicle traffic will be allowed in or out of the Rebekah Lot while commencement exercises are in progress.

  • Campbell Hall
  • Evans Dining Hall
  • Rebekah Scott Hall
  • Please note that Presser Hall, Bullock Science Center and McCain Library will be closed to guests.

Baccalaureate Reception will be held on the front lawn; in the event of rain, Letitia Pate Evans Hall

Commencement Reception will be held in the Alumnae Garden and Letitia Pate Evans Hall for graduates and families

Bookstore additional hours of operation

  • Friday, May 13               8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Baccalaureate)
  • Saturday, May 14           8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Commencement)

Caps and gowns: Undergraduates can keep robes, hoods and caps.

Information stations: Public Safety; Presser Lot; Buttrick Hall (front entrance)

Julia Thompson Smith Chapel

  • Friday, May 13          8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Baccalaureate)
  • Saturday, May 14      11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Commencement)

Library hours:

  • Friday, May 13               8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Baccalaureate)
  • Saturday, May 14            9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Commencement)

Commencement venue: Presser Quadrangle

If inclement weather occurs prior to or during the ceremony, the ceremony will be moved inside to Gaines Chapel, Presser Hall. Graduates and their families should monitor the college website for updates prior to start of the ceremony. 

In the event of inclement weather prior to start time for ceremony, graduates report to the ground floor of Presser Hall for line-up. 

Guest seating: Tickets are required for entrance to GAINES CHAPEL ONLY in the EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER. All seating is first come, first served.

  • Blue tickets are family seating in Gaines Chapel.
  • Purple tickets are the President’s Guests seating in Gaines Chapel.

Don’t have a ticket? You can find a seat in the following venues:

  • Buttrick Hall (Designated areas)
  • Presser Hall (Maclean Auditorium; seats150 and classroom 202; seats 45)
  • Rebekah Scott Hall (Katherine Woltz Reception Room, seats 250)

If the event inclement weather occurs during the ceremony, President Kiss will give instructions from the podium.
