The best thing you can do to enhance your time in the United States is to get involved on campus and meet as many different types of people as possible. See below for several opportunities. To hear about international events on and off campus, be sure to "like" the OIE on facebook!
Scottie Sidekick Program
At the orientation for all new students, you will be paired with a returning Agnes Scott student. She will “show you the ropes” and help you adjust to your new setting.
Coffee & Conversation
These informal gatherings for international students provide ongoing orientation and give you a chance to compare your experience to others’. Anything is up for discussion, including adjustment issues (food, roommates, classes, etc), cultural observations, humorous stories, and frustrating situations.
International Student Welcome Reception & Concert by the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
This annual event coordinated by the Atlanta Ministry with International Students (AMIS) and Kiwanis usually happens in late October. A concert by the Symphony Youth Orchestra in Woodruff Arts Center is followed by a reception at First Presbyterian Church. Students from colleges and universities all over Atlanta attend.
Photo Voices: Impressions of a New Culture
Photo Voices is an annual photo contest among Agnes Scott students, faculty and staff. It is not an “art” contest. Rather, the photos are judged on their ability to express the photographer’s impression of a new culture. As international students, you may submit photos taken in the United States or in any other country, as long as it is not your home country.
International Student Association (ISA)
Open to both international and domestic students, ISA is your opportunity to establish friendships with both U.S. and international students and to expand your cross-cultural awareness. The Office of International Education works closely with the ISA to hold events, including the popular International Express series, that focus on different countries and parts of the world. Members also participate in activities organized by international student organizations at neighboring universities.
Other Student Organizations
Joining an organization is a great way to make friends. View all ASC clubs and organizations, including multicultural, academic and service organizations.
You can also get involved with and receive support from off-campus Atlanta area organizations. See a list here.
