Advantage Award Program
The Advantage Award program is a signature program that funds hands-on learning via internships and mentored research and allows undergraduate students to connect academic learning to the world of work and research. The Advantage Award program provides opportunities to learn in a variety of settings and to contribute to your education by adding depth, breadth, engagement with a wider world, opportunities to hone skills, and/or exposure to career opportunities.
The Advantage Award Program is available via application in the spring for students to receive funding to offset travel and living expenses associated with a summer internship or research experience.
- Current Sophomore or Junior
- 60 credit hours at ASC by end of Spring 2024 semester
- Exceptions considered for transfer students
- GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Internship/research experience MUST be unpaid or minimally paid
- Internship/research connected to major or career interest
- Internship/research experience must be a minimum of 160 hours for 8 weeks
- Students must be returning to Agnes Scott in the fall following the summer internship
Internships/research/fees that will not qualify include:
- Pay-to-participate internship programs
- Fees associated with summer tuition (ASC or other institutions)
PRIOR to submitting an application, students must meet the following requirements:
Complete a required Advantage Award Funding Program Mini-Course on Canvas
The Advantage Award Funding Program Mini-Course is set up to ensure your success in getting a well-designed, competitive internship offer. We want you to succeed in your internship applications and interviews so it is required that students complete the following modules in this mini-course to qualify for an Advantage Award:
- Advantage Award Information Session (Start Here)
- Professional Communication During Your Internship (REQUIRED TO VIEW AND COMPLETE QUIZ AT END OF MODULE)
- Making the Most of Your Internship (REQUIRED TO VIEW AND COMPLETE QUIZ AT END OF MODULE)
- Digital Identity: LinkedIn and Handshake (Optional Module)
Students who are eligible to apply for an Advantage Award can click "Enroll in Course" to self-enroll.
AFTER being awarded, but before starting internship/research, students must attend:
- Inside the Internship and Research Experience (Dates and Times TBA)
AFTER the internship/research experience, students must:
- Complete survey about the experience
- Update resume and upload to Handshake for resume review
- Complete the Scotties Interns In Action Form to be spotlighted on our social media pages
Internship/Research Experience: 160 hours OR 20 hours for 8 weeks
$1,600
Internship/Research Experience: 240 hours OR 30 hours for 8 weeks
$2,400
Internship/Research Experience: 320 hours OR 40 hours for 8 weeks
$3,200
Juniors who have previously received an Advantage Award will be eligible for remaining funds up to $3,200
Students receiving an Advantage Award through study abroad will have that amount deducted from the total award above
Students will apply for the Advantage Award Program via the online application.
APPLICATION OPENS APRIL 2!
As a reminder, students must be accepted at their summer internship site BEFORE they can apply for an Advantage Award.
Application materials consist of:
250 - 300 short answer essay
Faculty recommendation
Resume/CV
Employer Verification Form (supervisor must complete)
Applications will close when funding is exhausted or by May 26.
