global-engagement-opportunities

Our world is becoming increasingly interconnected. Now more than ever, it’s important to have a deep understanding of other countries and their cultures.

Through the Center for Leadership and Service’s global engagement offerings, students will learn more about other cultures, experience traditional events, build relationships with peers, and develop a sense of cultural humility. In the Metro Atlanta area, there are a plethora of opportunities to engage the wider world without leaving the city. In addition to the global lens applied to the many communities and civic engagement efforts of the office, major global engagement offerings include:

Social Challenges of Our Times Film Series

Each month, an engaging film is selected, in partnership with various academic disciplines, to highlight challenges around the world and how the Agnes Scott community can be part of the solution. Previous offerings include Landfill Harmonic, Delores, 13th, A Place at the Table, and Becoming Incurable.

International Coffee House

Each month, the Center for Leadership and Service partners with the International Student Association to feature an international student's home country and their culture, traditions, and history. Sweet treats from the spotlighted country are provided along with coffee and tea.

Free and Reduced-Price Tickets to Global Festivals in Atlanta

Throughout the academic year, as funds are available and events are scheduled, the Center for Leadership and Service will announce free or discounted tickets to global festivals in the Atlanta area. Past festivals have included JapanFest, the Atlanta Greek Festival, the Atlanta International Night Market Festival, and the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.

Global Screen on the Green

Once a semester, students, faculty, staff, and community members gather on Woodruff Quad for a family-friendly global film. Past selections have included Coco, Moana, and Brave.
